“So, How was the chai?”
“Good, no awesome. It was awesome just like everyday .”
“And, just like everyday, I didn’t make the chai .”
“So who did?Rahima bua?”
As she was talking, she put her phone on the bedside table and gives a yawn. “You know, sometimes I want to leave you. If there was no matter of money, I would leave at least a thousands years ago.” The sick, old, shrunk man who was lying on the bed now replied, “well there are lots of jobs out there, why don’t you leave?””I’m sick of answering that question! I can’t get any job. Getting a job isn’t a piece of cake “,she hurled and the next moment she was out of the room.
The man gave a slight smirk.” I know you love me, more than my children do. That’s why every time, you try to be hard and when you can’t console your emotions anymore, you run away. You’re so crazy.” He was dying bit to bit every day. Now he looks so gruesome that no one can ever fancy that he was a beautiful, handsome person once. Of course, he still tried to capture that exquisite smile of him brought back from his youth. He had that one daughter who ever cared for him in this world. But people said different things. They said that she’s only after money. He hardly believed them. They always tried to break bonds. They even have questioned and spread rumours about their holy relationship. So,who cared? At least he didn’t.
“Why don’t you take vacations?” he once asked the girl.”because, I have no family.See,we are so alike-on your side your wife died and your children abandoned you, and on my side, my mother died so my father left me.”she responded.” So, don’t you have any friends?”She then responded so smartly that he never wished to ask about her life again. “An orphan hardly gets one,” was all she said.
He still remembered the day she came. She had a newspaper with her. She was clenching her palms nervously and while biting her nail she asked, “do you need any care taker?” And after four continuous years, he and the girl has made such a strong father-daughter relationship that even Xenophilius and Luna would be ashamed to see that. He knew how much she cared for him. He knew every morning she told a sweet lie that she hadn’t make his breakfast just to show that she was a hard-core. He didn’t know how Mila would survive without him, but obviously she had to. Life doesn’t wait for anybody.
Dr. Karim died. It was his kulkhani day. A lawyer entered the frame with some papers on his hand. Mila’s eyebrow frowned when she saw him. “Can’t handle such stress now, I’m exhausted.” But she offered him to sit on their veranda. Their luxurious living room was covered in pristine white drapes and prayers were being recited continuously. A will paper crawled out from lawyer’s hand to Mila’s. She couldn’t skip but read some beautiful lines-
“To my treasure, my girl,Mila, who never missed to prepare my chai on every forenoon, rain or sun it might be. I have no shame to say that I had chosen her over my sons and daughters. May her life be blessed with billions of times more care and love she has given to this poor man.May the Almighty showers her with mercy and best luck in this world, and even in the afterlife. I therefore, declaring Mila as the true and legal heir of my each and every property.”
A drop of tear fell on earth as she murmured, “I wish I had not poisoned him.”
